The label is stamped on the inner collar of your existing cap, or on a metal tag where the flue pipe meets the chase cover. If the tag’s gone, measure the flue opening across the inside diameter, not the outside. An 8″ ID pipe takes an 8″ cap. • Bird or squirrel activity on the roof near the chimney. Olympia Chimney caps use 5/8″ mesh, which is code for California. When the mesh corrodes or a weld fails, the gap is invitation-sized for starlings and the rodents that follow them.
